Long Overdue for a Update!!!

Declan Max
Born:-22nd of April 2009 at 10.15am.
Weight:- 4.5kgs.
Length:- 55.5cm.

I am pleased to announced we now have added a beautiful baby boy to our family. Declan Max was born on the 22nd of April 2009 after a bit of drama. He was breeched and we didn't know until a few minutes until he was born, via emergency c-section. Here is my birth story!!!!

My pregnancy had been a bit rocky at the beginning. I had spotting and a fairly big bleed at 13 weeks. I had about 5 u/sounds up until 13 Weeks then the bleeding just stopped. Never found out where it came from. Then I had a NT scan on bub. I was a bit shocked when the risk came back at 1 in 250. Another very stressful time and I honestly didn't know weather to go ahead with a animo. Something told me not too and me and my Dh decided to wait until the 20 Week u/sound to see if there was any soft markers or adomalities. This bub had was very determined to stay put while I was bleeding so thought I at least had to take that in to consideration. 20 Week scan came along and everything looked great.
tthumbs.gif So we decided to just leave it at that and not go ahead with any-more testing. But it was always in the back of my head for the rest of the pregnancy and I hands.gif we made the right choice not to ahead with any further testing. My 36 week ante-natal appointment came along so quickly. Then at that appointment my BP decided to start playing up. It was very normal up until that point. So I was sent off to be observed and babies heartbeat to montiered. It settled down and I was sent home again. My ankles were so swollen too. Then my 38 week appointment came along, everything was fine again. Then at my 40 Week appointment my BP decided to be high again. Back off to be montiered again and the doctor decided that I should be induced in a couple of days later which was a Thursday. On Tuesday night I was busting to go to the toilet then went. I came out to the kitchen to get a drink of water. And then I felt this gush run down my leg. OMG my waters had broken and it just kept on gushing out. I went into the bedroom to get a pad on and woke Dh up. He was a bit in shock and we were both ready for our baby to make appearance on Thursday. yyes.gif He got my bags ready and put them in the car while I rang my mum to come and look after the girls. We got to the hospital and I was dialated 2cm so it was just a matter of waiting for the contractions to start so my body would gear up for this birth. It was 3am when the contractions started. The midwife was finding it a bit hard to find bub's heartbeat as it kept fading out. So in the end she gave up and I focused on the contractions. Then at 9.30pm I felt like pushing, then another midwife had taken over for the other midwife. He decided to do a internal to see how things were going. First of all he let a student have a feel. She could feel I was around 8cm but said it was hard to feel the cervix's. Then the midwife had a feel. He was feeling around and had a strange look on his face. He said the cervix's is so high and it should be lower since I was 8cm dialated. Then all of a sudden a few doctors came in. They had a montier and was looking at bub. Then to everyone's amazement this baby was breeched. ohmy.gif No wonder why they found it so hard to bubs heartbeat as they weren't looking for a heartbeat near my ribs. It hadn't been picked up until now and I was 8cm dialated having pretty bad contractions. Then I saw half a dozen other medical pple turn up. It was very scary. The main surgeon started to talk to me how I could go ahead with a VBAC but in his opinion it would be very risky as baby could do damage to me down there while coming out and the cord was a concern too as it could wrap around the babies head while he was coming out. I never gave it another thought and decided to go with the c-section that he offered to do. Then all of a sudden there was a huge rush, I was told not to push while having theses contractions which was at there peak with no pain relief. As soon as I knew it I was in the operation threate. My poor Dh had such a worry look on his face and was dragged away to get a gown on. Then I was given a epidural and then the surgeon was in the middle of getting this baby out. It just happened so fast. Finally my Dh came back in, the nurse's were so nice I felt really reassured. original.gif Then 2 mins later I heard this cry, then the surgeon lifted our son up in the air. wub.gif He was so big, he was born at 10.15am and weighed a hefty 10lbs and was 55.5cm long. oomg2.gif We were both in shock as we were expecting another girl. LOL. We decided to have a surprise but never thought he would come out a boy. babyboy.gif Then he was taken off to get cleaned up, he was a bit rattly which I was a bit concerned about. After they cleaned him up etc the nurse brought him over to us for a cuddle. And to my relief he never had Down Syndrome. original.gif His Blood Sugar Level was low and they were concerned as he wasn't breathing right. So he was rushed off to SCU. My Dh went with him. After 45mins or so I was sewn up again and sent to the recovery. It was so long as I had no idea what was happening with our son. We didn't even have a name for him. I was finally put in a room on the maternity ward. One step closer to seeing our baby. I wasn't allowed to get up and had to stay in bed for the night. My Dh got back and said he was was on a machine to montier his breathing and everything seemed to be settling down. He was also put on a drip for his low blood sugar. At around 6pm I was finally allowed to be wheeled around to see him. It was so scary seeing him with all those wires on him. It broke my heart. cry1.gif He was led on my tummy and it was nice to finally see him. I felt ripped off as he had to stay in there while other mums had there babies in there rooms. I had a good night sleep and woke up determined to get on my feet again asap. I had a shower which was so nice. Then I was wheeled to SCU where I visited our son that we now named Declan Max. I tried to breastfeed him but my milk just wasn't coming in. I am sure it was to do with the delay and the shock of the c-section. I worked on breastfeeding for another few days and he wasn't allowed to come out of SCU until I was b/feeding him. Then on Sunday one of the midwifes convinced the doctor to let Declan come into the maternity ward with me and she would work on breast feeding with me. I was so excited to finally have him with me. For the first couple of feeds he suck on me and given some formula though a tube next to my breast so while he was sucking he was having that while stimulating me to produced milk. After 2 feeds of those I started to express and he was given that. The next morning he was sucking from me. ddance.gif I finally established b/feeding. On Monday I was determined to go home. I just wanted to go home and get out of the hospital. It had been so tramatic for me and Declan too and I just wanted to be home where I felt safe. Declan now nearly 2 Weeks old is doing great. I am so proud of him. We have some unsettled periods but overall he is a great baby. He sleeps 3-4 hour periods mostly which is so good. tthumbs.gif Thank goodness this is our last baby, there is no way I want to go thought that again. My baby making days are over. yyes.gif I am recovering from my c-section pretty good. At the beginning I felt like crying every-time I look at the photo's of Declan in SCU but as the days have gone by its getting a lot easier. Having new photo's of him had seem to make those bad memories fade away a bit.
